Remembering Winters Lane

(Winters Lane is a registered National Historic District in Baltimore County.)

Presentation by Louis S. Diggs

Louis S. Diggs was born and raised in Baltimore, attended Baltimore schools, and made his career in the military.  After his 20+ years of military service, he settled in the Catonsville area, where his wife had grown up.  Continuing to build on his education, he graduated from the University of Baltimore with a BA degree, and later a Masters in Public Administration.  He went on to do post-graduate studies at George Washington University in D.C.

Having had an ongoing interest in history, especially in the African-American communities of Baltimore, he began compiling histories of these communities, ultimately writing over 20 books and articles focusing on them.

Because we will not have time to see all of the historic areas of Catonsville during our Legacy Tour on October 10th, we have asked Mr. Diggs to share with us some of the stories from one of his earlier books, It All Started on Winters Lane, about the families and people from this historic African-American district in Catonsville.
