BALTIMORE COUNTY'S 350th ANNIVERSARY IN 2009

In honor of this anniversary, the Historical Society of Baltimore County is producing a special 350th Anniversary book to document the county’s rich history.  With some funding support from Baltimore County government, professional and citizen researchers are preparing text and are collecting oral histories and photographs for the publication.

Will you help us be able to include photographs showing all aspects of Baltimore County’s citizenry and diverse communities?  Please dig into your collections and look for photographs, from 1860 to present, that you could share to enrich the pictorial section of the book.  To ensure historic integrity, however, the people and locations in a photograph must be fully identified.  The photographic categories in the book will be:

Agriculture and Equestrian Life Commerce and Industry Sports and Leisure
Labor Education The Unique and Unusual
Religion Government Conflict and Cooperation
Rivers, Roads, and Rails Aviation Just for Fun
Homes and Mansions A Sense of Community Miscellaneous
The Faces of Baltimore County (famous and "average" citizens) Celebrating Life (e.g., parades, ceremonies, informal activities) Serving the Public (e.g., police, firefighter, hospital, libraries, etc.)

You do not need to give away the original photograph -- all photos will be scanned at the HSBC and returned immediately to the owner.  So that all scanned images can become part of the HSBC’s permanent research and publications collection each donor will sign a photograph release form.  The HSBC reserves the right to decide which photographs will be scanned and which will be used in the book.

The HSBC will offer an opportunity for these unique historic photographs to be scanned on Sunday, April 13 from 2:00-5:00.  Please call 410-666-1878 or email bchistory4@verizon.net to schedule a time slot for scanning.
